M4 81mm Mortar Carrier Early Production - WWII US Army Halftrack

The first American mortar carrier, the M4 put an 81mm mortar in the back of an M2 halftrack. Early production vehicles were designed to fire the mortar from the ground or rearward from the vehicle, giving armored infantry their own fast-moving indirect fire.

M4s went into action in North Africa and Italy, where their crews learned the tactics that would carry US armored divisions across Europe.

This model captures the early M4's armored body with the mortar crew compartment, front roller bumper and full front-wheel and track detail.
