M21 81mm Mortar Motor Carriage Halftrack - WWII US Army

The M21 improved on the earlier mortar carriers by mounting the 81mm mortar to fire forward from inside the halftrack, so the crew could get rounds on target the moment the vehicle stopped. A .50 caliber machine gun on a pedestal mount gave local defense.

M21s served with US armored infantry battalions in Northwest Europe in 1944–45, giving them their own fast, armored fire support.

This model shows the halftrack with its forward-firing 81mm mortar, pedestal .50 cal, armored body and full front-wheel and track detail.
