The T-40 was a Soviet amphibious scout tank that entered production just before the German invasion of 1941. Its boat-shaped hull, propeller and rudder let it swim across rivers, and it carried a heavy machine gun in a small turret.

T-40s fought in the defensive battles of 1941, including the defense of Moscow. The design was soon simplified into the non-amphibious T-60, but the T-40 remains a unique piece for early war Soviet reconnaissance forces.
