Fallschirmjager Schwimmwagen Amphibious Car with Driver - WWII German
The VW Type 166 Schwimmwagen was the most-produced amphibious car in history - ideal for a river line like the Rhine.
In March 1945, Operation Plunder sent the British and American armies across the Rhine at Wesel - and among the defenders waiting for them were the Fallschirmjager of the German 1st Parachute Army. No longer used as airborne troops, the paratroopers had become elite ground infantry, fighting in their distinctive splinter-camouflage smocks and rimless helmets to the very end.
A Schwimmwagen with stowage, spare wheel and seated driver.
