M3 Halftrack Personnel Carrier - WWII US Army

The M3 halftrack was the workhorse of American armored infantry, carrying a full squad into battle behind light armor. It combined a truck front end with tracked rear running gear for good cross-country mobility.

Produced in huge numbers, M3s served from Tunisia to the Rhine and were supplied to Britain and the Soviet Union. GIs sometimes joked it stood for Purple Heart Box, but it carried countless troops through the war.

The standard M3 halftrack in personnel carrier configuration.
