LVT-2 Water Buffalo Amphibious Tractor - WWII US Marine Corps
The LVT-2 was a major redesign of the original Alligator, with a new torsion-rubber suspension and the same radial engine used in the M3 Stuart light tank. It was faster, more reliable and better in the surf, and could carry around two dozen troops or several tons of cargo.
LVT-2s went into action alongside the older LVT-1 at Tarawa and served across the Pacific with the Marines and the US Army. British forces also used them under the name Buffalo, and the type remained a workhorse until the ramp-equipped LVT-4 arrived.
The LVT-2 Water Buffalo with its open cargo compartment and improved running gear, ideal for Pacific beach landings.
