Fallschirmjager Sniper - WWII German Paratrooper

A lone paratroop sniper could hold up an entire Allied company in the ruined towns of the Rhineland.

In March 1945, Operation Plunder sent the British and American armies across the Rhine at Wesel - and among the defenders waiting for them were the Fallschirmjager of the German 1st Parachute Army. No longer used as airborne troops, the paratroopers had become elite ground infantry, fighting in their distinctive splinter-camouflage smocks and rimless helmets to the very end.

A crouching sniper with scoped rifle.
