Short of vehicles, the paratroopers of 1945 marched to the front pushing their weapons and ammunition in handcarts.

In March 1945, Operation Plunder sent the British and American armies across the Rhine at Wesel - and among the defenders waiting for them were the Fallschirmjager of the German 1st Parachute Army. No longer used as airborne troops, the paratroopers had become elite ground infantry, fighting in their distinctive splinter-camouflage smocks and rimless helmets to the very end.

Eight marching paratroopers, some pushing ammunition handcarts - a great unit for convoys and objectives.
