Scale

French infantry battalions were supported by Hotchkiss medium machine guns and 60mm and 81mm mortars that gave the poilus real firepower in defense. Snipers and observers worked forward of the lines to spot targets and slow the enemy advance.

In May and June 1940 the French Army faced the German Blitzkrieg with some of the best tanks in the world - the Char B1 bis, Somua S35 and a host of innovative designs - but was undone by outdated doctrine and the speed of the German advance. French soldiers fought hard at Stonne, Gembloux, Dunkirk and along the Weygand Line before the armistice.

A medium machine gun with gunner and loaders, a mortar with crew and observer, a prone observer and a kneeling sniper.
