155mm Heavy Gun with Laffly Tractor and 6 Crew - WWII French 1940
French heavy artillery was still among the most powerful in Europe in 1940. Long-range 155mm guns towed by rugged Laffly tractors pounded German crossings on the Meuse and the Aisne, and their crews fought on to the very end of the campaign.
In May and June 1940 the French Army faced the German Blitzkrieg with some of the best tanks in the world - the Char B1 bis, Somua S35 and a host of innovative designs - but was undone by outdated doctrine and the speed of the German advance. French soldiers fought hard at Stonne, Gembloux, Dunkirk and along the Weygand Line before the armistice.
A complete heavy battery piece: the 155mm gun, a Laffly artillery tractor with driver and six gun crew figures including one taking a well-earned smoke.
