Scale

Water, fuel and ammunition decided the desert war. Rommel's supply lines stretched more than a thousand miles back to Tripoli, and every jerrycan counted.

The Deutsches Afrikakorps landed in Libya in February 1941 under Erwin Rommel and fought across the Western Desert for more than two years, from the siege of Tobruk and the Gazala line to El Alamein and the final battles in Tunisia in 1943. Tropical uniforms, pith helmets, goggles and sun-bleached webbing made the Afrika Korps soldier instantly recognizable.

Six rear-area figures: a soldier carrying two ammunition boxes, a soldier carrying a jerrycan, a cook with a ladle, a soldier resting on a jerrycan, an engineer with a pickaxe and toolbox, and a soldier with hands raised in surrender.
