USMC Rifle Squad 2 - WWII US Marine Pacific

The M1 Garand gave the Marine rifleman a semi-automatic weapon that outgunned the bolt-action rifles of his opponents, and Marines made the most of it in every island battle.

From Guadalcanal and Tarawa to Saipan, Peleliu, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, the United States Marine Corps carried the island-hopping war across the Pacific. Amphibious landings against fortified beaches demanded small-unit courage, firepower and close teamwork at every level.

Eight Marines with M1 Garand rifles in firing, advancing and kneeling poses.
