The Breda M37 was Italy's standard heavy machine gun - robust and accurate, using distinctive 20-round strips that fed spent cases back into the strip.

Italy's soldiers carried the first years of the desert war, from the 1940 advance into Egypt to the hard fighting at Bir el Gubi, Tobruk and El Alamein. Divisions such as Ariete, Trieste and Folgore earned the respect of friend and foe alike, often fighting with equipment inferior to that of their enemies.
