Foreign Legion Rifle Squad - WWII Free French Foreign Legion North Africa
The 13th Demi-Brigade of the Foreign Legion fought in Norway, Eritrea, Syria and the Western Desert. Its stand at Bir Hakeim restored the honor of French arms in 1942.
At Bir Hakeim in May and June 1942, the 1st Free French Brigade - Legionnaires of the 13th Demi-Brigade alongside colonial infantry from Africa and the Pacific - held out for sixteen days against Rommel's assault, buying precious time for the Eighth Army. The Legion's kepi, sash and desert kit became symbols of French resistance in the desert.
