Senegalese Tirailleurs 81mm Mortar Team - WWII Free French Senegalese Tirailleurs North Africa

The 81mm Brandt mortar was so successful that its design was copied by armies around the world, including the US Army's M1.

The Tirailleurs Senegalais - colonial infantry recruited across French West Africa - served with the Free French forces throughout the desert war, standing alongside the Foreign Legion at Bir Hakeim and in the battles that followed. Their distinctive chechia fez and hardy reputation made them respected soldiers in every theater they fought.

Three Tirailleur crew figures in chechia fez with bombs and binoculars, plus the 81mm mortar.
