Foreign Legion Anti-Tank Rifle Team - WWII Free French Foreign Legion North Africa
Foreign Legion Anti-Tank Rifle Team - WWII Free French Foreign Legion North Africa
Free French forces in the desert were largely equipped from British stocks, and Legion anti-tank teams fought with the Boys rifle at Bir Hakeim.
At Bir Hakeim in May and June 1942, the 1st Free French Brigade - Legionnaires of the 13th Demi-Brigade alongside colonial infantry from Africa and the Pacific - held out for sixteen days against Rommel's assault, buying precious time for the Eighth Army. The Legion's kepi, sash and desert kit became symbols of French resistance in the desert.
Two prone Legionnaires firing anti-tank rifles on bipods.
