Converting the proven Panzer III chassis into a dedicated flamethrower tank, the Flammpanzer III replaced the main gun with a projector capable of unleashing devastating streams of burning fuel against fortifications, bunkers, and infantry positions at close range.

Used in some of the most intense fighting of the Eastern Front including the Battle of Kursk in 1943, the Flammpanzer III was a psychological as much as a physical weapon — the sight and sound of its flamethrower enough to break even determined defenders. Only 100 were converted, making this one of the rarest and most specialized German armor variants of the entire war.
